Silky, from hatching to 7 weeks old　烏骨鶏、孵化から7週齢まで

This is the first silky chick born in an incubator from the fertilized eggs of the parents who grew up in our home.

The January-born silky started to lay eggs, but they did not hatch well. 3-week-old senior group did not lay eggs at all, and I found a pile of eggs that had been laid in the outside storage room. I collected them and put them in the incubator.

One was born on August 25, 2023, and the second hatched three days later; there were other cracked eggs, but all the remaining eggs did not hatch.

They are born yellow and change to white feathers at about 4 weeks of age. Now that the chicks are almost 8 weeks old, when should we move them outdoors?

With the fresh memory of the 10-week-old chicks being slaughtered by wild animals shortly after they were released outdoors last year, we are likely to put off their outdoor debut for a long time.

我が家で育った両親の受精卵から孵卵器で生まれた初めての烏骨鶏雛。

1月産まれの烏骨鶏が抱卵するようになったけどなかなか孵化しない。3週齢年上のグループが全然産卵しない、と思っていたら外の倉庫に産みためた卵の山を発見。これらを集めて孵卵器に入れてみました。

一羽は2023年8月25日に生まれ、3日後に二羽目が孵化、ほかにひびまでは入ったものもありましたが、残りの卵はすべて孵化には至りませんでした。

黄色で生まれて、4週齢ほどで白い羽に変わります。
そろそろ8週齢を迎える雛たち、さて、いつ屋外に引っ越そうか。

昨年、10週齢の雛を屋外に出して間もなく、野生動物に惨殺された記憶も新しく、屋外デビューはつい先延ばししてしまいそう。
