A little painter 小さいペンキ屋さん

• Third-year-chicken is still unstable. Egg shell is weak, so I add washed dried and ground egg shell or oyster shell to chicken feed. And egg shape changed these days. An egg seller of my mother's friend recommended fasting to fix it for one or two days. But we can't do it because our chicken, piyopiyo can get insects and worms in the field freely..
• I went to Hiroshima airport to pick up Mots san. We dropped a restaurant Hattendo next to the airport. There is a small park which has zipline and slope. These are what we have and we want to install them in future, so I took some pictures for our reference.
• Today's cheese weighs 500g. Yuki is eating bamboo shoot between rocks. Piyopiyo helps and interrupts my farming.
• Mots san brought wonderful gift from his sisters. Karen who is highly skilled quilter made three pieces of cute table cloth. Mary making nice honey every year in her garden shared some of them with us.
• Wheat harvest in the second field. Most wheats in this fields were bending, so it was hard to tie and cut, and it took more time to harvest. I encouraged myself by taking picture of my progress. Dry them on the wire fence in front of buck's farm.
• I removed wall of goat shed partially to let wind go in and put mesh to prevent from mosquito and gadfly. I planted sweet potato around the orange tree in Fujitani.

May 28

• I harvested garlics but they were very small. I should imporve by adding more fartilizer next year.
• Wheat harvest again. Yuzu san joined. The wheat field is on the hill with great view. It means that we have to carry harvested wheat up and down. Now I understand how much work the wheat owner wad doing by herself.
• After feeding Yuki and Shiro, Yuzu san tried to paint the outside wall. Aoki san came to see Shiro, Yuki, her kids and Piyopiyo with a little boy and girl, Go kun and Coco chan.

May 29

• Wood craft day. There are small but various tips to use such kind of machine. I often record them by photos and movies rather than memo for time consuming.

May 30

• I keep harvesting wheat in the second field.
• Morning:Threshing wheat by hand threshing in ENGAWA with Mika san and Kaori san. My hand threshing tool was weak and broken. One of duty person in ENGAWA said she can give me such old tool. Thanks! Hand threshing seems to need some tips and is very low efficient. We think that there must be more effcient way, then Kaori san tapped on wheat in a bag, and Mika san hit the wheat bag on the column. I am wondering when I can make breads from that...
• Afternoon: Wood craft club with Mika san. She is making a nice nameplate.
• Evening: I planted some seeds of squash next to buck's farm and fed Horn and Baron.

• 三年目の鶏はやっぱり不安定。卵の殻が弱いので、食べた後の卵の殻を洗って、乾かし、すりつぶしたり、牡蠣殻をすりつぶしたものを、鶏の餌に混ぜてやります。卵の形も最近おかしい。お母さんの友達で、卵を販売している方によると、１，２日断食させると直るとか。でもうちのピヨピヨは、放し飼いで畑で昆虫やミミズを自由に食べることができるので、ちょっとできないです。
• 広島空港へ、モッツさんを迎えに行きました。空港となりの八天堂のレストランに立ち寄りました。ジップラインや滑り台が置いてある、ちょっとした公園がありました。どちらも私たちが持っていて、いつか設置したいと思っているもの。設置の参考用にいくつか写真を撮ってきました。
• 今日のチーズは500g。ユキは、石の間に生えている破竹を食べています。ピヨピヨは私の農作業を手伝ったり邪魔したりします。
• モッツさんが、姉妹からのすばらしい贈り物を持ってきてくれました。お姉さんのカレンは、パッチワークがとても上手な方で、今回、3枚のテーブルクロスを作ってくれました。妹さんのマリーは、毎年自宅の庭で美味しいはちみつを作っていて、私たちにも分けてくれました。
• 2か所目の麦畑の収穫。ほとんどの麦は倒れていたので、紐で結んだり切ったりがやりにくく、収穫に時間がかかりました。進捗を写真に撮っては自分を励ましていました。ヤギ牧場の前のイノシシよけの鉄柵に麦をかけて乾かしました。
• 山羊小屋の壁を一部取り除いて風が通るようにし、蚊やアブよけに網をはりました。藤谷の畑のみかんの木の周りにさつまいもを植えました。

5月28日

• ニンニクを収穫しましたが、どれもとても小さかった。来年はしっかり肥料をやって、大きいのを収穫したいです。
• またまた麦の収穫。ゆずちゃんが参加しました。麦畑は、見晴らしの良い丘の上にあります。それはつまり、収穫した麦を運ぶために上り下りが必要ということ。麦を育てた方が一人でどれだけの作業をしていたのか、体感しました。
• ユキとシロに餌をやった後、ゆずちゃんが外壁のペンキ塗りに挑戦。青木さんが、ごうくん、ここちゃんと一緒に、ユキ、シロ、子ヤギたち、ピヨピヨに会いに来てくれました。

5月29日

• 木工クラブの日。このような機会を使うには、ちょっとした、でも様々なコツがあります。時間節約のため、メモ書きに代えて、写真や動画で記録していきます。

5月30日

• 2か所目の麦畑の収獲を続けます。
• 午前：みかさんとかおりさんを誘って、エンガワで千歯扱きを使って麦の脱穀。私の千歯扱きは弱くて壊れてしまいました。エンガワの当番の方が、うちにある千歯扱きをあげますよ、と言ってくださいました。ありがとう！千歯扱きにもコツがあり、そして、とても効率が悪い。もっと効率よい方法はないかと、かおりさんは麦を入れた土嚢の上から足踏み、みかさんは麦袋を柱に打ち付けたり。この麦でパンを作れるのはいつごろだろう。。
• 午後：みかさんと木工クラブへ。彼女はかわいい表札を作っています。
• 夕方：オスのヤギ牧場の隣にかぼちゃの種をまき、ホルンとバロンに餌をやりました。
