Encouraging a goat of difficult childbirth in Mukaijima 向島で難産のヤギを激励
- Yuzu san, Himeka san, Jun kun came and helped to take care of our goat, first. And then we went to Mukaijima to encourage a goat of difficult childbirth. The goat is Yuki's daughter. A guy taking care of it called me on Thursday and he feared that the pregnant goat looked very hard and wanted to know something he can do. But all I could do is only to tell him phone number of animal doctor in Onomichi then. Anyway I decided to go there with children in this weekend.
- They are two girls yuki gave birth to on last summer. I didn't care when they played with bucks, but one of them gave birth to one kid unexpectedly on early April and the other one has suffered difficult childbirth. I found their nails seemed to have never been cut, so I treated them by my scissors. I couldn't do other things, but anyway, it looked not so bad, so we went home. Two days later, I had a phone call that the goat gave birth, two kids without any complications. I was relieaved.
- Next, we went to Sashima to do our routine work on every Saturday, development of south shima. Cherry blossom and peer are blooming. Children like to play with zipline. But the setting position is too low, so we are planning to improve it. Himeka san helped to collect grasses for feeding goat.
- Children took care of our does and kids at home. I went to Fujitani to take care of bucks and put plastic cover on goat farm board. I found some bottle gourds and a book of growing it in a plastic bag next to grass donation box. It must be from Nakayama san who made the board. The other day, I told him that I am interested in growing bottle gourd to make a small container. He has experience to win third prize in bottle gourd contest of all Japan. I could meet a great teacher by chance.
- ゆずちゃん、ひめちゃん、ジュン君が来て、まずヤギの世話をしました。そして、一緒に向島へ、難産のヤギを励ましに行きました。そのヤギは、ユキの娘です。この子を世話している方から木曜日に電話があり、妊娠したヤギが苦しそうにしていると心配されていて、何かできることはないか教えてほしいということでした。でも私は、尾道の動物病院の先生の電話番号を知らせることしかできませんでした。とにかく、この週末、子供たちと一緒に行くことに決めました。
- 二頭は、ユキが昨年夏に出産したメスです。オスヤギと一緒に遊んでいたときは気にしていませんでしたが、一頭が4月はじめに一頭、予想外の出産をし、もう一頭が、今、難産で苦しんでいます。山羊たちは一度も爪を切ってもらっていないようだったので、手持ちのハサミで切ってやりました。他にできることはなかったけれど、とにかくそんなに調子も悪くなさそうだったので帰宅しました。二日後、二頭の子ヤギが無事産まれたとの電話があって、一安心。
- 次に、毎週土曜日の私たちの日課、南佐島の開拓のために佐島へ行きました。桜や梨が花盛りです。子供たちはジップラインを楽しんでいます。でも設置場所が低すぎるため、改良を計画中です。ひめちゃんは、ヤギにやる草集めを手伝ってくれました。
- 子供たちは家でメスヤギと子ヤギの世話をしました。私は藤谷へ、オスヤギの世話と、掲示板へビニルシートをかぶせに行きました。ヤギ菜銭箱の横に、レジ袋に入ったヒョウタンとその育て方の本を見つけました。おそらく、掲示板を作ってくれた中山さんからです。先日、ヒョウタンを育てて小さい容器を作ってみたいと、話をしていたところでした。中山さんは全日本のヒョウタンコンテスト3位の入賞経験があります。偶然、よい先生に出会えました。
